Sawdust Art Festival "Spring into Art" Weekend Workshops

Beginners are welcome!  Enjoy the spontaneous nature of this beautiful art form.  Express your
creativity with watercolors on rice-paper using Chinese Brush techniques.  Create your own
masterpieces and experience an entirely different way of painting.  No sketching or drawing involved.
Let your energy flow into the brush and bring your flowers and landscapes to life.       

2 day class fee $125 includes continental breakfast and catered lunch

Weekend of March 20 and 21, 2004
Saturday  10am to 3pm
Introduction to Chinese Brush Painting - Flowers
Learn about the different types of rice-paper and types of Chinese brushes used for floral subjects.
This workshop will go through the concepts of color-loading (watercolors), water control and the brush strokes used to capture
the beauty and lushness of large multi-layered petal flowers.  You will complete 2 paintings in this workshop: Roses and
Peonies.

Sunday 11am to 4pm
Chinese Brush Painting - Flowers
Build on the basic techniques taught in Intro to Chinese Brush Painting - Flowers, focusing on the versatility of the Chinese
Brush and the many "colors" of Chinese Ink.  This workshop will go through the brush strokes used to capture the delicate
beauty and grace of smaller single-layer petal flowers such as orchids and long, thin leafed flowers such as grass orchids and
irises.  You will complete 2 paintings in this workshop: Orchid and Irises.

Saturday  10am to 3pm
Introduction to Chinese Brush Painting - Landscapes
Learn about the different types of rice-paper and types of Chinese brushes used for landscape paintings.  This workshop
will go through the concepts of "colors" in Chinese Ink, water control and the brush strokes used to create line, shading
and textures to capture the beauty of mountains and water.  You will complete one landscape painting in this workshop.

Sunday  11am to 4pm
Chinese Brush Painting - Landscapes
Build on the basic techniques taught in Intorduction to Chinese Brush painting - Landscapes.  This workshop will introduce the
use of watercolors with Chinese Ink in Landscapes. Learn the techniques of washes and shading, advanced techniques in line,
shading, and texture to capture the magnificence and the mystery of mountains in clouds.  You will complete 1 landscape  
painting in this workshop.
